3D printed gypsum objects placed in Qing Dynasty monochrome bowl from the Tek Sing shipwreck, mild steel armature
Real world objects 3D scanned and 3D printed in full colour. The bowl with a pale celadon glaze dates from circa 1720 and was part of the cargo of the ill-fated Tek Sing which sank in 1822 in the South China Sea
This bowl remained submerged and undisturbed for over 150 years. Over the decades it built up a delicate orange-brown patina from the salt and mineral content of the seawater. In 1999 it was salvaged and auctioned in Germany and still bears the Nagel Auctions label
